- Compatible with tires from 28mm - 50mm
The OTHR Anywhr 40 wheels are tested to XC MTB standards so they can hold up to a beating that few road wheels could match. Constructed from Toray T800s carbon fiber for a smooth and resilient ride, the Anywhr 40 is a 1360g lightweight class-leader.
- 40mm deep, 32mm external rim width is aero optimized for 28-30mm tires on the road
- Wide 24mm internal width provides an equally solid platform for great cornering on the road as well as an aggressive profile when fitted with larger offroad tires
Deep enough to be aero, stable in crosswinds, and light for climbing. The wide external profile ensures the wheels are still providing an aero benefit even with wide road tires mounted, something a 27mm external width rim cannot do. The wide internal profile provides a stable cornering platform for road tires and an aggressive tire shape for larger gravel tires. And the tubeless specific rim shape means easy mounting and excellent low pressure performance.
- Inspire confidence in any conditions
- Fast over all surfaces
- Tubeless specific rim bed shaping

HOW DO THE OTHR ANYWHR 40 WHEELS STACK UP?
We’ve always been a little bit particular. Maybe sometimes more than a little bit.
About 2 years ago we found ourselves unsatisfied with available wheelset offerings - between specs, price, capability, and availability we thought something was missing. If we wanted to spend absolute top dollar we could get what we wanted, or if we were seeking out a lower quality option there were plenty of price-centric competitors, but nothing for the meat of the bell curve. Nothing that suited normal folks wanting the best.
COMPARISON TABLE—ADDITIONAL INFO
WHEELSET WEIGHT VS. TOTAL WEIGHT:
Many brands measure their wheelset weights differently, usually with the goal of an advantageous weight measurement to show off. We’ve done our best to weigh all of these wheels for an apples-to-apples comparison.
Many brands measure the lightest weights they get out of a production run and note that there is a ~5% variance (which means a 1400g measurement is more than likely to be as heavy as 1,470g in reality).
Many share their weight figures without tape or valve stems. That saves ~30g, or more. We believe this to be disingenuous as you need these items for the wheels to function. The tape is part of the spec required for tubeless operation.
Our wheel weights are published with tape and valve stems. But further than that, we take the average weight across a production run, and that is what is published. Our QC processes mean a smaller weight variance than the ~5% that some brands shoot for - so you won’t need to worry about your OTHR wheels showing up significantly different from the description.
WHY WE PRE-TAPE OUR WHEELS:
It may not seem like a big deal, but the rim tape is a critical part of the wheelset spec with tubeless wheels. The way the tubeless standards are created requires a very precise fit between the rimbed and the tire. Precise enough that the thickness of the tape must be calculated in!
The rim tape is not only important to make tires seat and seal, but it is also a critical safety element. For that reason, we pre-tape the wheels for you using a machine jig that ensures an even and accurate application.
You can expect your OTHR wheels to mount up easily with any quality tubeless tire and to stay sealed with no leaks from the tape.
INTRODUCING THE MINI-HOOK RIM BED PROFILE:
Clinchers are all but gone as the industry has switched to hookless rims. Hookless rims are lighter (slightly), stronger, and easier to manufacture than hooked clinchers. These all make Hookless great for tubeless applications, offroad riding, and manufacturing consistency.
But where hookless falters is in providing a safety margin that accounts for variance in tire manufacturing. Tires are a much less precise piece of equipment than quality wheels - the high volume produced, the materials used, and the process of making tires means there will always be a variance over a production run. The ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation - the body that creates standards for bicycle tires) specification for hookless gives a 10% variance in pressure for safety. This means that tires must stay on a rim if inflated to 10% more than their stated maximum. For road tires, this means they must stay on the rim if inflated to 88 PSI for a tire marked as 80 PSI max.
If you’re thinking that 8 PSI isn’t much, you’re right. Most pumps have a variance of a few PSI and, as anyone who has ever taken a long ride can attest, ambient temperatures can swing wildly in a few hours, resulting in another few PSI of tire pressure. So, you can quickly find yourself on the design/specification limit of what a hookless combination can handle.
So, the solution: a partial, aka miniature hook. This design utilizes a tubeless specific rim bed, so tubeless tires lock in the same way they do on a hookless rim. The partial hook only comes into play in edge cases where you may otherwise risk a blowoff with a hookless rim.
The partial hook adds a few grams (5g per rim or so) but doesn’t compromise on strength versus a hookless rim. You can ride these with confidence on-road or off-road.
These OTHR wheels are still tubeless only and require a tubeless-specific tire. We believe the benefits of tubeless are immense, and all future tire development will focus on tubeless.
OTHR PREMIUM STAR RATCHET HUB:
While we can’t fit everything we’d like to say into an FAQ, we can say that the OTHR hubs are simple in a good way. No gimmicks, as few moving parts as reasonably possible, and the highest quality parts we can source.
These hubs use Enduro bearings for smooth rolling. They’re centerlock for wide compatibility with all brands of rotors. And they use a DT Star Ratchet compatible freehub - this is a quick, engaging, low maintenance, widely available system. For 25 years, the Star Ratchet has been the benchmark in reliability for hubs - we chose this system so you can focus on riding, it just works.
SAPIM CX-RAY SPOKES:
There are a wide range of options, but much like with hubs - some are legendary for a reason. The Sapim CX-Ray is the bladed spoke by which all others are measured. These steel spokes are tried and tested - the perfect blend of strength, weight, and aero. There is a reason you’ll see these used frequently on high-end wheels.
WHY BRASS SPOKE NIPPLES:
This isn’t one that many talk about because by the time you worry about it, your warranty will be over, and they can shrug their shoulders. Yes, alloy nipples are lighter, but at what cost?
Alloy nipples are an inexpensive way to shave grams on the spec sheet, but they are highly susceptible to corrosion and failure where brass nipples aren’t. Brass nipples stand the test of time without seizing, cracking, or otherwise giving you headaches.
